Privacy Policy
Assignment has no accounts and no logins. It does not track you, does not show ads, and does not sell data. Your location — if you grant it — is used only on your device and is never sent to us. That's the whole story; the rest is detail.
This policy explains what information the Assignment app (“Assignment”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) accesses, why, and who — if anyone — it is shared with. It is written to be read, not to hide behind. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.
01 Information we do not collect
Assignment is designed to work without knowing who you are. We do not ask you to create an account or sign in. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photo library, or a device advertising identifier. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-app tracking SDKs, and the app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because there is nothing to track.
02 Information the app uses on your device
Some features need access to parts of your phone. In each case the data stays on your device and is used only to make the feature work.
- Location — If you allow it, Assignment uses your approximate location while you are using the app to show how far each shoot is and, for Pro, to limit alerts to a radius you choose. Your location is processed entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers, never stored by us, and never shared. You can decline or revoke this at any time in iOS Settings; the app still works, simply without distances.
- Notifications — The morning brief and high-priority alerts are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. We operate no push-notification server and do not receive delivery or open data.
- Saved items & coverage log — Assignments you save, and shoots you mark as covered, are stored only in the app's own storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.
- Photos & Calendar — Only if you choose to save a share card or add an assignment to your calendar does the app request that permission, and it uses that access solely to complete the action you asked for.
- App settings — Your filters and preferences are saved locally on your device.
03 Assignment content & our backend
The list of shoots you see is derived from publicly available City of New York event permits. To deliver that list, the app fetches read-only data from our hosting provider. These requests are anonymous — they carry no account and no identifier that we tie to you. As with any internet request, our hosting provider may briefly process standard technical information such as your IP address and device type in order to serve the response and protect the service from abuse. We do not use this information to build a profile of you.
04 Purchases
Assignment Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store. Payments and billing are handled entirely by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We never see or store your payment details. The app only receives from Apple whether your subscription is active, so it can unlock Pro features on your device.
05 Third parties we rely on
- Apple — App distribution, in-app purchases and local notification delivery, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Hosting provider — Serves the anonymous, read-only assignment data described in section 03. It processes only what is technically required to return a response and is bound to protect that data.
We do not sell, rent, or trade any information to anyone, for any purpose.
06 Data retention & deletion
Because we do not collect personal data or maintain user accounts, there is no personal profile for us to keep or delete. Everything the app stores about you — saved shoots, your coverage log, settings, and any location use — lives on your device. Deleting the app removes all of it. Standard, transient technical logs held by our hosting provider are retained only briefly for security and reliability.
07 Children
Assignment is a professional tool intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
08 Your choices
- Location — grant, limit to “while using”, or revoke in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Notifications — turn on or off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Photos & Calendar — manage per-app in iOS Settings.
- Everything else — delete the app to remove all locally stored data.
09 Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
